Be authentic.

Be authentic. The most powerful asset you have is your individuality, what makes you unique. It’s time to stop listening to others on what you should do.

Work harder than anyone else and you will always benefit from the effort.

Get off the computer and connect with real people and culture. Life is visceral.

Constantly improve your craft. Make things with your hands. Innovation in thinking is not enough.

Travel as much as you can. It is a humbling and inspiring experience to learn just how much you don’t know.

Being original is still king, especially in this tech-driven, group-grope world.

Try not to work for stupid people or you’ll soon become one of them.

Instinct and intuition are all-powerful. Learn to trust them.

Happy Friday SIP!

TODAY’S SONG: ORLEANS – “Dance with Me
TODAY’S INSPIRATION: Ace Hotel
TODAY’S PHOTO: model jenny

Waking up this morning and headed to work, I had some classic rock on the radio and Orleans “Dance with Me” came on. This totally brings me back to when I was younger and my father use to play it in his band. Alongside our song and photo of the day, for INSPIRATION I’m sharing the ACE HOTEL. This is by far my favorite hotel to stay at when travelling and has inspired not only the style of the studio, but the entire dynamic of the branding is fantastic. I’m in hopes to

Happy Friday!

2010 RECAP

When thinking of 2010, I look back with excitement of all the people I was lucky to meet, places I travelled, and experiences that I encountered. For the Year In Review, I wanted to share all the projects and photoshoots I have worked on but I would be stuck behind my computer for weeks, so I focused on one reflection per month.

In review, I wanted to focus on showing a bit of a “behind the scenes” glimpse into showing some of the beautiful locations, a bit behind how I scout places before a shoot, ideas that I come up with before a project, and also show a variety of photo projects from E-Sessions and weddings, to  commercial work, and travel.

Enjoy!

JANUARY

January (2010) Chicago photoshoot with the Lauder family and little Isabelle.

The Lauders had contacted me earlier in the year to shoot their little one Isabelle for her 6 month pictures. In this particular shot I wanted to do a mix of editorial and innocence. The photo is one of my favorites!

FEBRUARY

February (2010) with the Keifers.

A little note. One thing in what I love about my job is creatively coming up with different ideas and thoughts for each shoot that I do. I always try to mix things up. Alena was expecting in the next few weeks and I wanted to create a way in which I could share the relationship of her little boy, Cash, and the soon to be baby. So, wanting to surprise them, what better way than a little fun with finger paints!

When arriving to the shoot I shared my idea with them and it turned into a fun project for everyone.

MARCH

March (2010) commercial shoot with some deliciousness.

Some photoshoots go hand in hand with web projects and design that I’m working on for some of my clients. A few of my clients whether its caterers or restaurants often are in need of new imagery for their site. So during setup and in between dishes, I experience great tasting food!

APRIL

April (2010) engagements in Chicago, IL.

MAY

Destination wedding on the amazing remote island of Eleuthera Bahamas!

One of my fellow photographers, George Barnett and I traveled to the Bahamas to shoot a destination wedding on the remote Island of Eleuthera. On the northern part of the island there were abandoned ships all over from a hurricane earlier in the year.

JUNE

June (2010) a snowy wedding in the summer in Steamboat, CO.

This particular month was amazing! We were video’ing a conference in Keystone Colorado and photographed an amazing wedding the next week on the top of a mountain in Steamboat Colorado! It snowed in the summer.

JULY

July (2010) Wedding at Torrey Pines California.

Our July was back to back to back weddings! This was my first time ever shooting a wedding on the West Coast, in fact, ever being to the California.

AUGUST

August (2010) Magic Engagement Session.

I wanted to feature this photoshoot that I did in August because of its amazing location. Before every shoot, I often scout out new locations and came across this meadow I happen to stumble upon. The entire field had amazing purple wildflowers and butterflies everywhere. It was magic.

I love finding new locations! It’s probably one of the most exciting things about being a photographer.

SEPTEMBER

September 2010 The warehouse!

I often have many shoots involving portraits or images needed for ads in magazines and often travel to the outer par of Bloomington to this open warehouse. I wouldn’t necesarily say its abandoned, but its not functioning and very run down. I wanted to show this picture (1st image) from another shoot I did to show the size of the space.

The second image is of Allen | Spalding Attorneys at Law that was featured in ads.

(View of the warehouse space… Thanks “Nut” for showing the size of the space)

OCTOBER

Every year I always have a few weddings in the lovely, historic New Harmony, IN. Just 10 miles outside my hometown. This lovely E-Session we shut down a bridge for a few moments.

I love the couples that I work with because they are always willing to be adventurous. After a bit of sweet talking the toll booth operator, we got this amazing shot.

NOVEMBER

November is always a very busy month for Blueline because thats the MONTH OF DEADLINES. We experiment this month always every year!! We started researching some tilt shift photography for posters and pick some of our favorite ads we use.

DECEMBER

Holiday Parties and Bliss!! It seems like December there is something going on everyday from events, to art shows, and more. Always thinking outside of the box for our invitiations for Bliss, the one project I wanted to post for December was for our Sweater party photoshoot leading up to BLISS4.

Wishing everyone a fabulous New Years! Can’t wait to share the new happenings for Blueline in 2011!

office on the road + willard library

willard1

so alot of my work is spent going from place to place, shoot to shoot, meeting to meeting … so besides being in my studio in bloomington, when i’m travelling i’m usually at some random coffeeshop with wifi, working out of a friends business, finding wireless pretty much wherever i can… but sometimes if i know i need a good few hours, i’ll hit up a library.

Why?

1. its super quiet

2. there’s all sorts of interesting people watching

3. i get ALOT of work done… and i mean ALOT

so, when i’m in evansville for work i’m usually at pennylane’s coffeehouse but lately i’ve been pretty interested in super old buildings so my plan was after my trip to chicago this weekend, when i got here i’d work out of the old willard library in downtown evansville.
