From the Intern Desk

The first post from our newest addition to Blueline: photography intern Lauren Schwein.

“On a whim, I took a photography class, because I had always held this remaining interest in the subject since high school.  It was a rather eye opening experience, because it was such an awful class.  It was Photography: an After Thought, and I disdained it so much that I started working on my own projects, and I soon found that my work outside of the class was so much more rewarding.” – Lauren on her moment of “photographic enlightenment”, continue reading for the full story!

CLIENT PROFILE: allen spalding, llc

allen spalding, llc has been a client of blueline for almost 2 full years now. last week we just finished up our 2010 promo photoshoot for their upcoming marketing campaign. last fall (2009) we created some pretty wicked phonebook ads … check out that post here. and if you think phonebook ads, you think … boring. but with the right marketing and style, we captured something that no one else did!

so this year we took it up a notch! i’d most for sure have to say that i would not want to mess around with these guys … they do look pretty BAD ASS! but william and mike are amazing businessmen, lawyers and just down right great guys! check out some of the candids below!

WEDDING WEDNESDAY

Something Old, Something New: some fresh wedding decor ideas inspired by vintage finds from contributing blogger and fabulous wedding planner, Erin Garvey

Weddings need this.

while looking through some gorgeous wedding pics, a table filled with candies caught my eye. “I’m so glad the candy bar has caught on” was my first thought. my second thought though was “that table is fantastic.” the candy bar was situated on this great teak table, shabbily worn down. the wedding was held on an island, so the weathered table looked beautiful. fit naturally. added a vintage beach feel that gave the couple’s candy bar some character. Lovely.

this got me thinking. why don’t more people use vintage furniture in the decor scheme? it is a growing trend and some brides have really made this vintage design idea. i am using vintage in the broad term. however this could mean: victorian couches, shabby chic furniture, rod iron outdoor seating…

don’t get me wrong. i understand the importance of easy rentals…they set up. they tear down. easy. BUT, why not take some time to look for some fantastic pieces to enhance your decor. could be a fun outing for bridesmaids, MOB and MOG or (dare I say it) the groom and the bride. once your are done, you can use the pieces in your new home together. donate it to your family members. resell it. whatevs.

anything that adds character to a wedding I am all for. check out the pics below on the cleverly executed vintage furniture.

love it.

All Things Blueline

Today at Blueline, it’s all about bringing in the new. We’re finally moved into our new studio, and along with some photos of our progress, we’re proud to introduce you all to our new logo.

We fell in love with vintage doors and have been to antique shops all over midwest to find the best! Over the next week we’ll be hinging them to use as divisions and hanging art work on cables between them. Lots of creative projects going on here- excitement is in the air!

One month ago, Chelsea gave me an assignment to keep a photo blog. Just one photo every day for thirty days of what ever I wanted to capture. Day thirty felt like a distant mile stone 29 days ago, so it’s very surreal that today is day 30!

I start the blog using my simple Canon Power Shot and no editing. It’s fun to look back and see my development as a photographer since then and how I begin to incorporate different cameras and editing methods.

This blog has become really dear to me because it chronicles my life this summer: my friends, music I was enjoying, scenes I wanted to capture, things I was learning, etc. I love all of the moments I got to freeze in time and share, so I’m pretty sad the 30 days are up.

I can’t really imagine letting this blog end; I love it too much to start neglecting it and go where ever forgotten blogs go.

I think another thirty days of photos might be in order…
